What is the difference between Tab In and Tab Out Cassette?
Audio Cassettes are either sold in Tab In or Tab Out. Tab Out Cassette is simply a "write-protection". Write-protection is designed to prevent any accidental erasure of recorded material.
If the cassette is Tab In, you will find two plastic tabs on the spine of the cassette. One on the left and one on the right. You can break off the tabs after your cassette is recorded. This will give you write-protection.
If the cassette is Tab Out, you will find two cavities on the spine of the cassette. Professional duplicators prefer Tab Out to ensure end users don't accidently erase the tape. The music or book on tapes are always sold in Tab Out format.
You can use Tab Out cassettes by applying adhesive tape (scotch tape) over the Tab Out indentation and it will bypass the write-protection. After you have finished recording, simply remove the adhesive tape.
