A standard DVD-R can only be burned once, while a DVD–RW can be written over with new data erasing old data, up to one- thousand times. One may ask the difference between a DVD–R/W and DVD+R/W. The difference is that the DVD-R and DVD-RW were developed by Pioneer and their competitors Sony and Phillips developed DVD+R and DVD+RW. Minus R products have an original design, many compatible with more burner machines, even more machines than DVD+ products.
